More about this coffee and its origins
The Mugaya Coffee Factory was founded by the Mutira Farmers Cooperative Society in 1975 and since then their members have grown to 924 smallholders.
The average farm size is half an acre with about 200 coffee trees each. The varieties grown include famous Kenyan coffee varieties SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11 and Batian.
The region lies due south of Mt Kenya, and boasts fertile, red volcanic soils and an average elevation of 1500m.
